How It All Started

Putting yourself in a new space opens up your eyes to new opportunities.

Born in Ohio, Braden Shenk moved to Seoul to study international trade at Seoul National University, earning a Master’s degree in Trade and Commerce.

Upon graduation, he worked in marketing for a Korean telecom company. Gradually, though, he became aware of the quality of Korean brands, particularly in the beauty industry, and its potential for international distribution.

He began connecting with local Korean cosmetic retailers, and sending product samples to American distributors. Slowly, orders started coming in and Amkor Trade began building its clientele from the US, expanding to India and the Middle East.

“You have to find creative ways when you’re small and just starting.”

For Braden, his breakthrough was through his focus on international markets with an emerging product line of korean cosmetics.

Challenges Overcome

Expanding to new markets means learning a new set of rules, and for Braden he learned the hard way that some markets would be better left untouched.

One his shipments to one region was delayed because of a gun fight at the border, and a heavy tax was laid because the shipment contents didn’t seemingly match its invoice.

A tough lesson, but through trial and horror, Amkor Trade became more selective with its chosen distribution channels.

Looking Ahead

Amkor Trade is focusing its product line on high-quality products that have been widely successful in larger markets, and creating connections to distribute those products in emerging markets.

Its selected product line will be available on their website, along with an e-commerce blog. The company is looking to grow with an internationally diverse sales and marketing team as it continues to expand its global distribution channels.
